"A guy and 2 Clinton Voters. A tale of 3 people inhabiting the same universe (somehow)."
So, tonight I'm bidding farewell to a coworker at a local bar as the conversation turns. Clearly my coworker's wife is uncomfortable that the conversation has turned political. Apparently the fact that both her and her wife (both white) did their duty and voted for H. Clinton. My bringing up the uncomfortable topic of the upcoming neo-fascist regime is just a bridge too far. Because I cannot prove beyond a shadow of a doubt that the NC voter restrictions struck down by a federal judge were not 100% bigoted as written on paper. Just as other states using the infamous Interstate Cross Check vs. Obama winning 2 terms. I must be making shit up and being unfair to Drumpf voters. Then, even my "once upon a time crying over Clinton's concession speech coworker" chimes in with "Shhh you're not letting anyone speak!!!" Regardless of how many times I stop talking to let them "school me on the liberal media" and the fact that in the last 30 yrs republicans have offered some good ideas, such as tax cuts. I'm the rude one. Yes, it sounds simplistic but I assure you that was the gist of it. Outnumbered and with dates, names, facts, figures and the historical precedent of both the Jr. and Reagan administrations. I'm just being goddamn impolite. I sit there in disbelief as any fact is struck down with the "Evil Chuckley Santa" Mike Pence type chuckle, because I live in some sort of bubble. My brown working class ass has lived everywhere from San Juan, PR, to the rural south east in OH (where I stuck out like a sore thumb). I also still work with white union guys and defend their right to organize and demand a better living from the corporate asshats some of them somehow support. Just as much as I've hung out with working class "minorities" who just couldn't "vote for that bitch"this year. But you see. Those of us who've pledged to oppose and never appease the extremes of the upcoming fascists. Are "living proof of the bubble that we all live in".
Regardless how this came across. This isn't "woe is me" or some such nonsense. I'm perfectly capable of voicing my point of view. Nor have I ever been shy about it. This is about how people who are supposedly on our side. Will turn on you the minute you challenge their comfortable beliefs. No matter the gravity of the situation.
Yes we've thrown a bunch of shit at each other right here, as Clinton or Sanders supporters over the last few moths. But the real problem as I see it. Is the so called liberals and "independents"' who are lining up to normalize and legitimize this rancid sack of shit who will be our chief executive in just a matter of days. It's kind of sad that over the years I went from "the crazy conspiracy guy who broad brushed those poor misunderstood republicans as ignorant bigots". To the "crazy loud mouthed guy who lives in some sort of liberal bubble". Either way, it doesn't matter. From what I could tell. These ladies didn't want to hear that, even though their relatives (parents , grandparents) might not be bigots themselves. Bigotry wasn't a disqualifier when it came down to their votes.
When the real shit comes down. They feel they'll be immune to it and the rest of us will have to "deal". Make no mistake. What has transpired in our country the last few months is not normal. Nor will it be normal, as many times a s we try to convince ourselves.
On edit: Apologies for the various edits and relative incoherence. I don't drink as much as I used to. So I'll need to do some proof reading as the next day approaches and sobriety kicks in.
