He is a fellow Republican senator and peer. That relationship ensures their unity on his confirmation.

SoS is where they might break ranks. The oil baron is an outsider and unqualified. They can break ranks on him with less fallout

Since the House doesn't play a role, any protest there is meaningless and just makes us look childish. The proper course is to have our senators be professional, grill the shit out of each one to make as much dirt as possible public, and vote no.
