The point being we really cannot afford to lose another Senate Democrat. This is a ploy by trump to put another republican Senator in her place, and make it that much more difficult if they get rid of the filibuster.

The Governor is a republican, and he would replace her with a republican

I am speaking purely from a numbers game. Strategic. It is not good to lose another another Senate seat. Susan Collins is a Senate republican who most likely will side with us if they try to dismantle Social Security and Medicare, and we would need two more if they got rid of the filibuster to at least block issues that this.
