I wonder if the "spokes" were aligned with respect to solstice, calendar, leylines, geology, etc. or if they were just arbitrary? I didn't see any reference to that in the link. Also, borg = fortification, place of protection is likely related to berg = village, town, etc.

The name Trelleborg certainly caught my eye. That was the brand name of the motorcycle tires I often used racing motocross in the 70's. I know now it's not just a brand, but a thing. And I think I get the tire marketing: round things to gain traction on what is outside while protecting that which is inside.
