Concerned with spirituality but about keeping family traditions.

The Keeper:The Legend of Omar Khayyam (2005) starring Vanessa Redgrave.

A movie made by a Persian, Kayvan Mashayekh, about the life of Omar Khayyam of Naishapur, that shifts between his time and the present day people of Persian descent in Houston.

Omar is childhood friends with Hassan. Hassan grows up and becomes a religious fanatic. His followers were the Hashashin, where the words "hashish" and "assassin" come from. (This is historically verified.)

Omar is court astronomer to Sultan Malikshah.

Hassan urges Omar to join his crusade because he has religious authority.
Omar says, "And just WHO.........has......absolute.....religious......authority?

Omar also says, when Hassan asks him to join his jihad, "The Holy Koran says that the most excellent jihad is conquest of self."

Check it out at www.greatomar.com

The guy that plays Omar (Bruno Lastra) is quite handsome)!!

Omar Khayyam was an astronomer, mathematician and poet, author of the famous Rubaiyat, a book of four-lined stanzas.
