Andrew Berry officially named Browns new GM and Executive VP of Football Operations [View all]

CLEVELAND, Ohio -- Jimmy Haslam finally achieved the organizational alignment he’s been seeking when Andrew Berry was officially announced Tuesday as the Browns’ 16th full-time general manager and sixth since the Haslams took over the team in 2012.

Berry will be tasked with taking the Browns to the playoffs for only the second time since their rebirth in 1999, and snapping the streak of 12 straight losing seasons. He’ll work closely with Chief Strategy Officer Paul DePodesta and new coach Kevin Stefanski in an all-Ivy League triumvirate.

The youngest GM in the NFL at 32, Berry takes over for John Dorsey, who overhauled the roster in his two-plus seasons, but hired a coach in Freddie Kitchens who sources describe as “a train wreck’’ in his one season as head coach. Kitchens and Dorsey were both let go after their lone 6-10 season together with one of the most talented rosters in the NFL.

Berry, who was Browns Vice President of Player Personnel here from 2016-2018, watched the Browns go 8-39-1 in his time here, including 0-16 in 2017.

Berry left Cleveland in 2019 to take over as Eagles Vice President of Football Operations and have more authority over roster decisions.

It's important these guys have two-three years to build and coach a winning team. Draft and sign substance, not flash or style -- men, not children. And no head cases. Head cases kill teams.
