and the initial step down went at first unnoticed
ever deeper into a darkness then suddenly blind
in a subtle loss of sound life became unfocused
stripped down to starkness and no future to find
stand before the throne to view the one true god
head bowed hands clinched in the trembling fear
backs bent a weight born from the sins of fraud
closed eyes faces pinched shedding one cold tear
quick looks at the adored visage of omnipotence
when shock has passed allowing a second glance
upon features abhorred the crazed incompetence
worshippers become aghast as time loses balance
now within hallowed halls as angels voices ascend
yet without hollowed walls as demon souls descend
