1. I read a book last year about D day from the German perspective

It was a historic event the likes of which will probably never be eclipsed. I remember a couple things that stood out to me, from the perspective of common German soldiers (beyond tens of thousands of planes and ships) that stunned them. One thing they wondered about was where were the horses? We picture German army as being highly mechanized but it wasn’t, they relied heavily on horses. Another thing they couldn’t believe was allied tanks rolling right up on shore from the water (Sherman DD tanks). When they witnessed all the equipment being utilized they knew they were screwed.
