The Social Security Act of 1935 is a landmark U.S. law signed by President Franklin D. Roosevelt on August 14, 1935, that established a system of federal old-age benefits and other forms of social security, including unemployment compensation, assistance for the blind and for dependent children, and maternal and child welfare programs. Enacted to address economic hardship during the Great Depression, the Act created a permanent national pension system funded by taxes on wages and payrolls, providing economic security for many Americans and laying the foundation for the modern welfare state.

Key Provisions of the Act
Federal Old-Age Benefits (Title II): The creation of a federal system of social insurance to provide income for retired workers.

Old-Age Assistance (Title I): Grants to states to help them provide financial aid to their needy aged citizens.

Unemployment Compensation (Title III): A federal-state system for unemployment insurance, funded by taxes on employers.

Aid to Dependent Children (Title IV): Grants to states for aid to families with dependent children.

Maternal and Child Welfare (Title V): Programs to provide services for maternal and child health.

Public Health (Title VI): Funding for state public health work.

Not much.of a surprise on why the oligarchs of 1930s to day hated him.
