...of leaving office before his death. His challenges were huge, but not comparable to those of Lincoln or Roosevelt.

Lincoln dealt with the first violent insurrection, the likes of which even exceeded, by far, that which Biden faced.

Roosevelt faced a worldwide financial and political collapse and rising fascism around the world, even greater than we see now, although we're not done yet in our time.

If the United States is prevented from committing suicide, an unlikely outcome at this point, a new President will need to be among that pantheon if the country is to survive. I'm not sure it will.

In normal times, Lincoln would have been a forgettable President, as Roosevelt would have been. It takes extraordinary circumstances to present an opportunity to aspire to greatness. We are experiencing, regrettably, such times now.

Everything he touches dies; we are thus facing the death of the nation, as did Lincoln and Roosevelt.
