“All we are doing is following the long-standing tradition of not fulfilling a nomination in the middle of a presidential year.”

Sorry, my bad, that was what McConnell said in MARCH of 2016 when Obama nominated Merrick Garland. McConnell’s reply to Trump in 2020 was obviously, “Yes, sir! As quick as we can, sir!”

Of course in hindsight, it’s debatable how valuable Garland would have been on the SC. Less bad than the current right wing 6, but probably not a reliable liberal vote.
