5. It's been 3 years for me, the longest since I was 11. He was 16 and I'd had him since he was a puppy

All of my dogs have been rescue except my first dog who my father brought us when I was 11. My uncle, who trained his own dogs (collies) got my Dad a book on how to train your cocker spaniel (my Dad had grown up with a cocker), but my Dad was busy and had a responsible job, so I was the one who read that book and ran out of things to teach her. I loved that dog more than anything. And since I've adopted from rescue, mostly older dogs except for Jack, and I've loved every one of them just as much. And I truly know how you feel.
