gherkin pickles, cranberry apple relish, and my grandmother's pickled watermelon rind. There was a separate lazy Susan for savory "anti-pasto" selections - i.e., green olives, black olives, dill chips, deviled ham, mustard eggs, and pickled beets.

the pear slices were marinated in boiling hot water, green food coloring, and mint extract until cool and tasty.
The apples were sliced and marinated in boiling water, and cinnamin "red hots" candies."
