Prednisone Questions [View all]
I started having sinus infection symptoms at the end of May. They weren't going away with normal methods, so I called my PCP on June 5. He gave me 5 days of prednisone. The sinus pain in my head went away, as well as nasal congestion but my ears remained a bit stuffy. I had a bp and blood work check at end of July. I told my doc they were still felt stuffy. He gave me flonase.
Well that didnt help my ears got plugged worse and now my left ear has tinitus in it and my hearing is less. I went to urgent care last Saturday. The NP prescribed Allegra and 5 whole pill Prednisone and 4 half pill Prednisone.
I took the 5 days nothing changed only got worse. Not only that it caused me several panic attacks and I was driving my poor sister nuts. Calling her saying I was going to get meningitis again, or have a stroke, or go deaf. So yesterday I called my PCP again. He got me in, said he thinks my ears are now infected. He gave me an antibiotic, told me to go back on flonase,& continue the allegra. I also explained about the panic attacks caused by Prednisone.
The only thing is he wanted me to take today's half a pill of prednisone. I don't want to take it because my anxiety is still over the moon, and my sinus headache is back. Did not respond to Tylenol yesterday, or Advil today. My sister called Pharmacy and asked if I could just stop it yesterday morning before I saw my doctor. Pharmacist said since it was only five days, of full he didn't see an issue but check back with doctor. So I am torn what to do. I really don't think I can get through another panic day? My doctor is off today, and I don't want the staff to think I am a problem patient. I don't see how a half a pill would make a difference in the underlying illness but I know your supposed to taper off, and don't want to risk other side effects, if there would be. The pharmacist did say 20 MG for 5 days wasn't that big a dose, but he didn't know I was on it, for five days in June. Should I call my Psychiatrist and ask her what to, or the NP my insurance company has come see me every three months to ask if it's okay to skip, or will they just tell me to listen to my PCP?
Not asking for medical advice just whether or not you think it would be worth checking with Psychiatrist office or NP from insurance? Sorry this is so long. I am just scared.
