A friend got a cortisone shot right into the hip, and that helped her too, though the doctor warned her to avoid another steroid shot for a year.

Something else to look into is your shoes. Hip pain can come from arch problems. You might try out some orthotic in your shoes, something to prop the arch up, and see if that makes any difference. (If it does, a podiatrist could help.)
