1. Believe it or not, I used to write for Seventeen, way back in the late 70s.

Nothing much, just little articles about "How to Choose Your First Car," and "Buy Running Shoes that are Right for You." I didn't do it for long, but...

I remember a letter I got from one of the editors there, giving me some details about what an assignment entailed. That editor kept referring to the magazine's readers as "the kiddies." I thought that was odd.

I don't think the staff had much respect for the girls who were reading their magazine. They were just "kiddies" to them, and the demographic their advertisers were trying to sell stuff to. I moved on to other magazines and other topics before long.
