1. Presumably the new price is profitable to the manufacturer, right?

I get it about the original manufacturer having to amortize research costs, but the old price was still outrageous gouging.
One expects capitalists to be pigs, but bad regulation made this level of piggery possible.
Isn't regulation supposed to rein them in?

And the bad regulations are still in place.
