Heck, I was in grad school when that came out.

It seems the owner of the patent is exploring a wide variety of alloys, instead of just trying to produce bulk Ti at lowest cost. I guess they want to sell high-value-added alloys, not just commodity bulk Ti: https://metalysis.com
