2. Historic botanical inventory info is fascinating.

Michigan is fortunate to have extensive botanical data dating back to the First Survey, which was roughly about 1836. In addition to the first accurate land survey back then, surveyors did assessments of the plant species. The University of Michigan’s herbarium has an informative website (michiganflora.net ) that includes historic information when the species was first found in the state (to the county level, actually) and other cool stuff like detailed photos and a botanical key to help with identification. One of my favorite websites!
