...where I grew up when there were still potato farms all over, and scrub oak woods. Every time new bulldozers arrived to hack out a piece of a new tract housing development - being young I didn't understand that my house was an early example of the thing to which I objected - I wanted to cry.

By the time I finished high school, the old country roads became strip malls...
