He compares human energy use to the energy absorbed by the oceans. However, the energy absorbed by the oceans is not the result of current emissions, it is the result of the accumulation of many years’ emissions.

Sadly, if we immediately stop all carbon emissions, the heating of the oceans due to those past emissions will continue.
