We can’t really expect China to wait around while the US sleeps. The technology and innovation developing by leaps and bounds in China and other advanced countries will benefit the world. The massive scale of China’s development will help bring costs down.

The inevitable coupling of alternative energy sources (wind, solar) producing both direct electricity and hydrogen as a fuel can provide limitless energy for the planet.
