I’ve had a Roth and a Traditional IRA with them for 8 or 9 years.

For what it’s worth, they are a broker, it’s just they don’t have to follow the “Know your client” rules regarding investment suggestions or advice.

My accounts are of a very modest size and I don’t make trades too often, but when I do they are trouble free and simple.

The best option is to use mutual or exchange traded funds, frankly. Picking individual stocks is typically not a good idea for the average investor, but if that’s what you are looking to do, E*Trade offers zero commission trades.
