Holy Donut workers in Portland unanimously vote to unionize [View all]

by WGME StaffWed, April 22, 2026 at 6:25 AM

PORTLAND, Maine (WGME) -- Workers at the Park Avenue Holy Donut in Portland are forming a union after a unanimous vote.

The employees will form their union with machinists’ union.

Employees previously said they were looking to unionize due to a number of reasons, including low wages, unsafe and unhealthy conditions, lack of benefits, fear of retaliation, inadequate staffing, unpredictable scheduling and other issues, which they said had been ignored or met with hostility.

Last month, the company said they were "blindsided" by the request to unionize and strongly denied the allegations, calling their approach "adversarial and confrontational.”
