which increases the cost per single book. That's why college textbooks are so expensive. So unless an author of a scholarly, thoroughly-researched book that might take years to write is willing to effectively donate their work, these books will necessarily cost more than the usual commercial fiction, massed-produced potboiler. This is why there are libraries, where people can read books for free.
