6. Melania said that she "wrote" the speech herself

Which means she probably contributed to the speech. All of the political experts are saying that Trump should fire the speech writer to reduce the damage to his campaign and his wife, but why would a professional speech writer lift words from someone else's speech, especially the speech of Michelle Obama, something that is so easily checked. That doesn't make sense as an explanation

I think that controversial section might have been a part of the speech that Melania herself contributed which the speech writer didn't catch; that would make better sense because she might not understand how the media hates plagiarism. That would present a real problem. No professional speech writer is going to ruin his career by falling on his sword and admitting to plagiarism he/she didn't commit, so if Trump tries to fire someone for something he/she didn't do, he better expect some denials. The other possibility is that Trump could fire the speech writer for not catching Melania plagiarism, but that would be admitting his wife is guilty.

The question is can a speech writer's integrity and reputation be bought with Trump's millions. If the answer is "no", expect Trump to pull his usual stunt by doubling down and again pretending it didn't happen
