Trump is hurting down the ballot candidates so it'd be a way to tourniquet the bleeding. Plus Trump is really odious as a front runner.

TRUMP as a candidate helps DEMS up and down the ballot and hurts GOP up and down the ballot. Either way they probably have to give up the Presidency. So they probably just wanna save down the ballot candidates as much as they can.
