have helped is for Republicans to get rid of winner-take-all primaries. There were some primaries where GOP challengers were actually quite close to Trump, but they received NO delegates whatsoever because those primaries were winner-take-all.

IMO, both parties should create similar primary systems:

- ALL caucuses should be eliminated and replaced with primaries
- ALL primaries should be closed (primaries are where the members of the party - not outsiders - choose their candidate)
- ALL primaries should have delegates awarded to candidates in proportion to the votes they receive

As for SDs, they are a double-stopgap safety measure in the case where proportional allocation of pledged delegates may lead to a ridiculous outcome. But if the first three steps are instituted as above, SDs could be considered superfluous.

Of course, if SDs are eliminated altogether, then the magic number for winning any nomination should = 51% of the pledged delegates from the primary outcome, never what some have advocated for in this election: that the 2016 magic number of 2,383 for the Dems should consist of pledged delegates alone.

Math does not seem to be a strong point for any of Hillary's adversaries.
