In New Orleans, President Obama breaks into song again ("The Jeffersons" theme): (BOG) [View all]

President Obama found another chance to show off his singing voice Thursday, busting out a rendition of the theme song from “The Jeffersons.” While touring the Treme neighborhood in New Orleans, the president met a woman who introduced herself as “Weezie.”

"Weezie? Really, like … Weezie?” Obama asked. “Like in ‘Sanford and Son?’ ”

The woman corrected the president, saying he’s thinking of “The Jeffersons” — and sang the iconic first words of the show’s theme song, “Movin’ on up.”

Obama joined in and continued the lyric: “Movin’ on up, to the East Side” as a nearby man clapped along briefly.

The president was in New Orleans to commemorate the 10th anniversary of Hurricane Katrina and the city’s recovery since the storm. He praised the Big Easy as a city that is “slowly, unmistakably, together, moving forward.”

Obama has a history of breaking into song. He led a rousing rendition of “Amazing Grace” in June at the funeral of a victim of a mass shooting at a predominantly black church in South Carolina. He also sang a short version of Al Green’s “Let’s Stay Together” at a 2012 fundraiser.
