The dogs have been able to play outdoors a lot today, since it got up to a freaky 60 degrees. I have a good friend down the street who owns a car but no longer feels comfortable driving out of town. So today she wanted to go to an even smaller town nearby where she grew up; they have an excellent farmer's market/general store there, and a little cafe. You can buy things there which are not available in our bigger tiny town. I dug her car out of the snow for her and played chauffer, but I love it because I miss driving and I do like shopping in her hometown.

One of the treasures I came home with was 10 lbs of good peanut butter for barely over $15; it would've cost at least $24 here. I like the old fashioned general stores anyway. Oh, I forgot to mention the excellent dry goods department on the east side of the building. There's a bigger one in another town, but it's twice as far away. It will be the last trip we can make for the winter. Tomorrow will be nice too, so I plan to ride my bike around town on a few more errands, then shed it for the season. Sunday will be back to 17 degrees, with overnight lows well below zero again. 15 below's about the worst it usually gets, although I remember once or twice 20 below. That's nothing for upstate Maine, though. Or it didn't used to be.
