The spirit of Christmas did not end today, it is only the beginning. [View all]

Christmas is over on the East Coast.

The clock has struck twelve. It's done.

Yet, the true meaning of Christmas is not the paper that was torn or the ribbons that were discarded. That is just pretty packaging, superficial at best.

What does it really mean to us? This day brought me sweet joy, laughter and a loving bond with family and friends. Yet Christmas is not a one day holiday. It does not end at the stroke of midnight.

The true depth of the spirit of Christmas should remain with us throughout the year. It is about laughter and giving. It is about our kindred spirits that not only feel the pain when others are suffering, they reach down and help them stand tall.

There is no need for packaging when you have the real thing standing in front of you. Simple roots are not a bad thing. A community organizer that walks tirelessly through neighborhoods to help right the wrongs. Walking miles in thread bear shoes to bring hope to so many that are in need, to those that believed they were forgotten. Why? It is because he believes that it is the right thing to do. He believes in us. Our President believes in us, our, spirit and resilience. He has given us sunlight when we have only known shadows. He reached down and pulled us up.

The future? Well I believe it has become brighter. Yes, I know not quickly, not easily. However it grows brighter by the day. Our colors grow stronger and bolder and they will indeed continue to change and mold our behaviors. The colors will meld together, as on an artist's palate and together we will stand as one. We will be strong.

The spirit of Christmas did not end today, it is only the beginning.

Peace to you all.
