Need some guidance, please! [View all]

I'm posting from my 10-year-old Toshiba laptop. The newer one (about 3 years old) is acting up. When I turn it on, my screen comes up but when I try to sign in the screen goes black; the cursor shows and I can move it around, but that's it. When my normal login screen comes back, it still goes black when I try to sign in. Trying not to panic, working on some stuff for local Dems events, kinda need to get in there to do that. Anybody have any ideas?
