The fighter jets will be a big bargaining tool for Canada in the upcoming CUSMA review. Hoekstra has said the silent part out loud when he said there are no further negotiations on tariffs at this time. There was never going to be a deal and Carney was aware of that, shown by turning elsewhere immediately, with some hope of a US deal still.
