3. It's hard to figure out what to think about this

On the one hand the young man obviously died doing what he loved. That is a courageous and admirable thing.

On the other, when you put your body up against a thousand pound animal with nothing but your wits and skill to fill the gap between your relative strengths, this outcome is always a possibility. The same is true in many other sports. The same is true in exploration and even tourism. For everyone who wonders why anyone would jump out of a perfectly good airplane, there is another packing a parachute.

I am more of a safety and comfort guy myself, but I do understand why people do these seemingly crazy things. I will drink a toast to this young man this evening and hope he is watching from a nice perch in Valhalla.
