Democratic leaders in Washington State vow accountability after Trump's wild, unprecedented Day One overreach [View all]

Donald Trump’s second regime got off to a horrific start today with a tsunami of unwise, unethical, illegal, and unconstitutional executive orders, validating the preelection warnings of people who worked in his first regime and experts on authoritarianism.

As journalists scrambled to digest the documents Trump was signing (copies of which Trump’s communications operation sent to NPI), Democratic leaders in Washington State began issuing statements pledging to hold the wannabe dictator accountable for his attempts to subvert the Constitution and take away Americans’ freedom.

United States Senator Patty Murray blasted the pardons for insurrectionists:

The individuals who stormed the capitol and staged an insurrection, especially those who committed acts of violence, should be held fully accountable. It’s a sad day for America when a President who refused to relinquish power and incited an insurrection returns to office years later only to grant violent criminals a Presidential pardon or commutation.

What the President is doing is wrong — I’m going to keep speaking the truth and fighting for our democracy. I will never let President Trump paper over the history and reality of that dark day or the lessons we must learn from it.
