even today when things get difficult, whites are considered "more American" than nonwhites who are "less American". Father Coughlin was an immigrant. Barack Obama and Nikki Haley are not. Some Irish got kicked around so much by the British that they felt it was time to rise up by stepping on someone else, like Jewish bankers I guess.
Italians were interned but back then many of them were not considered white.
Both Donald Trump's and my grandparents were immigrants but somehow he's MAGA and I'm the job stealer.
