sales and use taxes for school supplies, clothing, and energy-efficient goods, within limits, are airbrushed right out of the picture.

It doesn't mean I can buy a brand-new iMac and not have to pay a sales tax on the entire purchase price. The tax will be dropped up to a point. Past that point, the tax applies.

Thus the tax holiday means more to someone buying a $299 Lenovo than to someone springing for the M2 27" iMac.

The holiday also applies to thrift store purchases. You buy clothes at a thrift store during the tax holiday, and there's no sales tax on the clothes. Again, up to a point.
