Spring school board elections in suburban towns usually don’t attract much notice, but the May 2 Grapevine-Colleyville ISD election — where three newcomers unseated incumbents elected three years ago — is a warning sign for a certain type of candidate in Texas.

Even in conservative-leaning suburbs, there are limits to how far confrontational political rhetoric can carry local leaders when everyday governance falters.

In Place 5, Matthew White beat A.J. Pontillo, Lindsey Sheguit defeated Dianna Sager in Place 6, and Darrell Brown defeated Mary Humphrey in Place 7.

What is clear is that a majority of parents are ready for a change, and they are fed up with trustees focused on political theater who were rewarded for their ideological views and endorsements rather than their policies for students’ education and the future of GCISD.
