Liquor by the drink will be on the November ballot in the Town of Oneida [View all]

HUNTSVILLE | A liquor by the drink referendum will appear on the ballot in the Town of Oneida when voters head to the polls in November.

That is in addition to referendums for both liquor by the drink and package stores that will be on the ballot for voters county-wide during the Nov. 5 election. In addition to petitions containing the signatures of at least 10% of the voters of Scott County, a separate petition was submitted to the Scott County Election Commission office containing the signatures of at least 10% of the voters of Oneida, requesting a liquor by the drink referendum.

The Oneida referendum will not include package stores.

Scott County Administrator of Elections Gabe Krahn told the Independent Herald Tuesday that the petitions for both the Town of Oneida and Scott County had been verified on Monday — a time-consuming process, she added. All contain valid signatures for at least 10% of the voters, as required. The Election Commission will meet Thursday at 4 p.m. to approve the petitions. However, that is a mere formality in the process.
