TULSA, Okla. (AP) -- The Oklahoma Insurance Department says nearly 76,000 claims have been filed since a series of violent tornadoes hit Oklahoma last month, killing dozens and injuring hundreds.

Insurance Commissioner John Doak said Wednesday insurance payments from the storms are nearing $688 million.
