Protesters rally at Capitol in support of bill proposed in Oklahoma Legislature that would consider abortion a homicide


OKLAHOMA CITY — Waving handmade signs and chanting, hundreds of people flooded the Capitol on Tuesday in support of proposed legislation that would make abortion illegal in Oklahoma.

Among them were Oklahoma-based Free the States. The pro-life group is seeking a hearing on Senate Bill 13 crafted by Sen. Joseph Silk, R-Broken Bow. The measure would make abortion a homicide.

The bill has been assigned to the Senate Health and Human Services Committee, chaired by Sen. Jason Smalley, R-Stroud.

Smalley, who is anti-abortion, said he had some problems with the language of the bill. Silk had agreed to make some changes, Smalley said.
