FARGO — The loss of a loved one can be a struggle, and the loss of a child can be life-changing.

North Dakota lawmakers have introduced a new bill that would give parents more time away from work after the loss of a child.

When Ryan Slapnicka lost his 19-year-old son Tristen to suicide three years ago, he said his employer only gave him three days off.

Co-workers donated some time to him, but it only gave him nine days to plan a funeral and mourn the loss of his son before he was supposed to return to work.
