Iowa legislator arrested on DUI, weapons charges [View all]

Another Republican in trouble with the law

Francis “Chip” Baltimore, 51, is charged with OWI first offense and possession of a firearm while under the influence after being pulled over at 5:41 a.m. in Ames Friday.

Baltimore is currently serving his fourth term in the Iowa House, representing District 47. He is the chair of the Judiciary Committee.

In 2017, Baltimore talked to The Des Moines Register about a bill to address repeat DUI offenders and his call for a sobriety monitoring program.

"Impaired driving is an issue that needs attention in Iowa. We've been trying to address this in the past few years without success. We're hopeful that we'll get something to the governor to sign this session."
