'I'm not as opposed to it as I was': Indiana lawmakers talk redistricting with JD Vance in DC [View all]

The push to redraw Indiana’s congressional maps is gaining traction among state lawmakers, amid ongoing pressure from the White House.

Dozens of Indiana Republican lawmakers who spent the day in Washington, D.C. met with Vice President J.D. Vance and other Trump administration officials about how to advance the president's agenda, including on the topic of redistricting.

The president himself was not in attendance at the four-hour Aug. 26 meeting in the Eisenhower building, attended by an estimated 60 or so lawmakers. Politico reported that Trump later met privately in the Oval Office with Indiana House Speaker President Todd Huston and Senate President Rodric Bray.

The visit appeared to be persuasive to some Republican lawmakers who previously expressed opposition to redrawing Indiana's congressional maps mid-decade or were undecided.
