2. I observed the eating habits in the elementary schools I

taught at for 20 years and I'd say 66% ends up in the trash can. Cookies, tater tots, pizza and anything breaded or fried got eaten. It was such a waste of good food that I spent my own lunch period making sure they were choosing healthy items, including a daily salad bar. I taught my class about nutrition and everyday we read the lunch menu and went down the list, eliminating fatty and sugary items. Parents told me how much they appreciated this often.

That said, I must admit that the photos of the lunches in the article look disgusting. No wonder the kids don't want to eat them. The lunches at the city schools in San Diego look like delicious feasts compared to them.
