The rate of getting covid on a plane has been low, maybe 1/3000 or so pre vax, probably about the same as eating out in a normally occupied restaurant with another couple. So with vaccines, the risk of symptomatic infection is probably lower than the injury risk of a long car ride. I've encouraged my parents (81yo) to travel by plane. I think it's dicy, though, to make plans for 2022. A new variant could throw everything off.
