Nearby Fresno has the highest total annual electric costs in the CONUS. Maybe the entire country.

Combination of hot summers, high rates, and a past decision to punt on public power, IIRC.

Numbers vary a lot, but "highest" is always the case. Recent numbers.

National average 0.16

0.47 $470/mo electricity only (03/2026)

Solar companies actually estimate lower. Older data?

https://www.smartenergyusa.com/electricity-rates/california/fresno/ (date?)
0.28 $256/month

0.33 $292/mo $3500/yr

The CPUC both demands conversion and punishes it. A captive agency.
