Which may be Lonsdale’s true motive for enticing Mahan to run.

There are currently over a dozen Dem candidates for Governor.

There are only three Republicans.

California has a “jungle primary” where the top two vote getters advance to the November general election.

Even if Mahan is only polling in the high single digits, that could certainly help split the Dem vote enough to get the top two Republicans on the November ballot.

Unless every Dem except Swallwell and Porter drop out soon, that’s what we are looking at.
