She was related to my sister's husband. I believe she was authentic and sincere and respected her abilities. She'd hold an item that someone used a lot, like a ring and just pass along things that might be meaningful to the person. She didn't charge for her time. I remember she described the afterlife. She said if someone died because of sickness or injury, their spirit would initially be in a place of healing (like a hospital) and after the spirit recovered, would go on to existing in the afterlife. My sister's mother-in-law asked if her long lost husband was still alive. The psychic said she couldn't get exact information to relate. She later told me that if someone had crossed, and other loved ones didn't know, she wouldn't tell them. I figured the missing husband was probably on the other side.
My Mom asked if she'd ever get a house of her own, and the psychic told mom she would get her own house. But she didn't say how and that was probably a blessing for my Mom. My younger brother bought a small cabin in Colorado. Later my Mom moved out there to live with him. My brother died in an accident and my Mom got the house. The psychic didn't tell my Mom all of that story, just that she'd have her own house.
My husband and I were trying to get pregnant, without much luck. I asked her why it was taking so long, and she said we were trying too hard. She said I'd get pregnant soon, and I did.
My husband's brother-in-law was friends with another of the psychic's relatives (small town, large extended families) The two men had a construction business together. Our brother-in-law was staying at the friend's house when the psychic visited. He'd heard about the the lady (her name was Alberta, but everyone called her Bert) and was a little curious. He and Bert went to a room and closed the door. The way I heard the story, they were together for almost a half hour. When our brother-in-law came of of the room, he said, "No offense, lady, but I never want to talk to you again!" As far as I know, he didn't tell anyone what she said.
She told me that if a spirit wanted to communicate, it would enter her body and in some way get the message into Bert's awareness and she'd pass it along. She said she could tell when a spirit was present, because spirits had dimensions like their earthly bodies. She said she and her husband were driving one time, and a spirit entered her body. Bert was very uncomfortable during this experience, and it turned out that the spirit had been a very large woman and over-filled Bert's body. She offered a lot of detail and i thought it was really interesting.
There are other stories I have of her abilities. Even after all this time, I believe that she could communicate with the dead and look into the future. She tempered her visions with compassion for the living. (Do we really want to know what's in store?) She and her husband attended church and were the most ordinary people you could imagine.
To answer the original question, if I asked a psychic anything, I'd be interested in knowing how she knew she had a remarkable gift.
