between about 1890 and 1930. Archeology, murder, women's rights, colonialiism, bigotry, nationalism, and so much more, including cats, all written in the rather florid Victorian style, whiich takes a bit of getting used to. Her "Jacqueline Kirby" series is contemporary, with a librarian as the main character. Her Mary Poppins purse almost is a character in its own right. (contrary to popular opinion, she did NOT base it on mine!) Her "Vicky Bliss" series is also more contemporary, featuring art historians and a Cary Grant-like thief. Good reads, all.

Absolutely agree about kittens!
